The role

Applicants must be committed to the values which are embedded in our ways of working, our schools and our systems and processes.

Academies have changed education by giving schools greater autonomy. We need to continue to build our Board and are seeking a business leader who is a Chartered Accountant to join us as a pro bono non-executive Trustee. As we are covered by both company and charity law this role gives you a rare opportunity to develop Board skills relevant to both the private and third sectors.

This Board role focuses on strategy, finance, governance, risk management, academy performance and the need to provide robust independent support and challenge.

We hold 6 Board meetings each Academic year and we ask that you attend at least 1 local advisory board meeting each year. The Board meetings are held at our central office in Wickford, Essex.

There is also the opportunity for you to become a member of our Audit or Finance Committees.

You need to be able to commit time to our induction process and getting to know our schools.

You will gain great experience to help you build your non-executive Trustee portfolio. The role of a non-executive Trustee at our growing trust is akin to that of growing a business – with similar challenges of establishing a new organisation and its structure, setting out the ethos and creating a performance culture.

By joining our Board you will help to shape the future of the next generation and improve the life chances of all our pupils.

Successful applicants must be bound by HEARTS policies and procedures, particularly the governance Code of Conduct and the 7 Nolan principles of public life.
