HEARTS Curriculum

HEARTS Academy Trust is committed to providing a happy, caring and safe learning environment for all within a values led context, where everyone feels valued and grows in confidence and independence.

We promote HAPPINESS through a creative, exciting and practical curriculum, which generates a love of, and interest in, learning and a resilience and hope which supports us through challenging times.

Great value is placed on pupils’ self-ESTEEM which is developed through a positive and motivated attitude to learning, a healthy lifestyle, good social skills, self-discipline and a positive self-image.

We promote the highest standards of ACHIEVEMENT in all areas of the curriculum and help all pupils to fulfil their potential regardless of gender, race or ability.

We foster RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY for all by establishing good relations between the school, home and community. Pupils are taught respect for themselves, others and the environment. They are also taught to take full responsibility for their own choices and responsibility for themselves and their community.

We encourage TRUTH and honesty in all aspects of school life – relationships, work and the curriculum and learn to trust and accept others’ individuality and uniqueness.

We develop SPIRITUALITY and SERVICE so that calm, quiet, reflective times which support deep thought are part of school life and beauty is appreciated. We promote a service culture that reflects our duty to support and show compassion to all members of the community and not just ourselves.

We place significant importance on academic progress and attainment and ensuring all children receive a world-class education. However, we know that full primary schooling should include a variety of life-enhancing and memorable experiences – ones that our children will know and remember for years to come. It is our aim to ensure that all of our pupils receive an education that is not only inspiring and memorable, but one that equips them for their future. To do so, our curriculum is supplemented with the HEARTS Promise: a programme of activities and initiatives in which every child participates that broadens horizons, builds key skills and inspires learners. Please find out more about the HEARTS Promise here

‘The school’s curriculum has been well thought through. It is highly ambitious, offering a wide range of subjects for all the pupils. The school has identified the essential knowledge and skills that each pupil should learn in each subject.’ Ofsted, September 2023 The Wickford Church of England School

At HEARTS, we have designed the ‘HEARTS Curriculum’ to bring together the values and knowledge we wish for our children to learn and remember in readiness for their next stage of education.

Subject specialists and the most experienced teachers across all schools in the trust work collaboratively to develop termly medium-term plans. Termly planning is informed by the overall intent and themes of the HEARTS curriculum alongside following the specific knowledge children need to learn at each stage as outlined in our subject progression guides.

Our class teachers and leaders use ongoing assessments to tailor the curriculum to meet the needs of and provide equity for all children. There is also space provided within the curriculum for teachers to plan lessons to address misconceptions, spaced retrieval practice and basic skills.

We also acknowledge the unique settings and contexts of each school, so therefore, teachers make adaptions where needed to overcome barriers to learning that are specific to their school context.
